Jubël – Supernatural
– A California dream born from a creative deep-freeze in the middle of a Swedish snowstorm.
On October 2nd, the Swedish dance-pop duo Jubël releases the single “Supernatural.”
The track follows in Jubël’s signature style, featuring catchy hooks, warm guitar tones, and good vibes.
“We’d love to say this song came to life on a sunny day in LA, but it was actually written during one of the coldest days of the Stockholm winter. At the time, we were stuck in a creative deep-freeze—we lacked inspiration, hit a wall, and we where struggling to find that spark. We were basically snowed in at the studio, dreaming of California, warmth, and love, but nothing was quite clicking. Then, almost out of nowhere, the guitar riff appeared. It felt like an angel from above—suddenly, there was a little piece of California in the room. We seized that feeling and set out to create the sunniest guitar riff we could possibly write, then built the entire world of the song around it. Perhaps it was that very struggle that drove us to push the feeling even further.
‘Supernatural’ is a California dream, born from a creative deep-freeze in the middle of a Swedish snowstorm.”
BIO:
Where most dance pop follows the drop, Jubël follow a feeling instead. The Swedish duo, consisting of producer and vocalist Sebastian Atas and producer and guitarist Victor Sjöström, first connected through SoundCloud in the early 2010s, long before their name meant anything outside of Halmstad, on Sweden’s southwest coast. But from the start, they shared a vision: to create music that felt good to make, and even better to live in.
Their breakout came in 2018 with a shimmering rework of “Dancing in the Moonlight”, a track they didn’t initially intend to release. “It was just sitting on a hard drive,” Sebastian recalls. “An indie label wanted it, and we were like, ‘Yeah, sure.” The song took off, by now having racked up over one billion streams, and climbed charts globally – reaching No. 1 on the UK airplay chart – and also earned a Tiësto remix in 2020, that pushed it even further.
That kind of success could have backed them into a corner — and become a formula to repeat. Instead, Jubël leaned into freedom. “We’ve been through the phase where one song controls your whole mood,” Victor says. “Now we just make music we love. If people connect with it, that’s amazing. If not, we’re still proud of it.”
“Triple A”, their single with Memphis rapper NLE Choppa, is a perfect example. The track was written in 2021 during a snowy cabin session in northern Sweden, but it came to life through a cross-continental process. “We flew to London to record vocals, and then we went to Memphis to finish the production,” says Sebastian. “It was crazy. We even visited Elvis’ house.”
The collaboration, released in 2023, was unplanned but electric. “We didn’t know each other at all,” he adds. “It was just the song that brought it all together.”
That openness to collaboration — whether with Aleyna Tilki in Turkey or Linnea Henriksson in Sweden — is part instinct, part strategy. “We’re not staring blindly at the U.S. or UK,” Sebastian says. “There are voices everywhere that can bring something new.”
“Some of our tracks are super organic, others are more dancey,” says Victor. “We’ve even made lists of instruments we haven’t used yet, just to try things. But the best stuff often happens by accident.”
That, ultimately, is the point. For Jubël, the joy is in the moment: in the spark that starts a song, in the freedom to follow it wherever it leads, and in the hope that someone, somewhere, will hear themselves in it too.
